Last week in photos etc: January 18-24 2021

Mischief managed

Still having a good time with the #newyearnewmagicchallenge over on instagram. It's more positive than the state of the world at least! It provides an excellent diversion. Not entirely sure it's causing much improvement in my photography skills though!

The Broom Collection

The Broom Collection, in the same artifacts series as The Wand Collection, by Insight Edition, succeeds where The Wand Collection fails.

Last week in photos: January 11-17

Poinsettia in bloom

The 2nd week of the new year isn't proving much progress, so here I am once again, providing a distraction with pictures of all sorts of geekery and assorted madness :). And hey, my poinsettia still looks very pretty (we actually got it end of 2019, it just started blooming again in December 2020).

The first 10 days of 2021 in photos

portrait by wand light

So far 2021 has been as much of a dumpster fire as 2020, let's hope that will still change.
But to provide a change from all the doom and gloom, here's the first 10 daily photos of this here relatively new year!
As well as a couple of outfit shots because why not? :)

Christmas: fashion, food, flatlays and what I got

Dear Santa, can we negotiate?

Well, with lockdowns, the government trying to cancel Christmas and all sorts of madness, I have tried tob ring some cheer in my life by dressing up, doodling Christmas outfits in my sketchbook and making flatlays. So here we are are, with 2020 Christmas fashion, food, flatlays, art and what I got (which is all the way at the end with a handy video if you just want that)!

Cursed Christmas: an air kraken story

A little while ago, a challenge on instagram popped up called #cursedchristmas2020.
Whilst I didn’t have the time to make 6 pieces of art on such short notice, I did have time to shoot some flatlays and make a little set of of photos featuring Candy Cane the air kraken.
So here it is, my contribution to Cursed Christmas.
If you like what you see, please give these photos a like on the gram, also :). Much appreciated!

Travel Magic

Photo of the day: 28.11.2020

Travel Magic is another interactive book by Insight Editions, but nothing like The Gryffindor: Courage journal (read more about that here).
No, this book has very little text, but is a beautifully designed little treasure book nonetheless.
It's strenght is in it's graphics, focussing on most every year of Harry Potter's education at Hogwarts, and all the little bits and bobs you find throughout.
Watch this youtube video to see what exactly you can find in this book, because photos just can not do this justice. 100% recommend!

Of courage and other things

Gryffindor: courage journal

A while ago, whilst browing Book Depository, as one does, I stumbled up on 4 upcoming edition year long journals with writing prompts by Insight Editions, all house themed. I figured they looked really nice, so I preordered the Gryffindor one. And whilst I'm on the subject of Gryffindor, I'll also cover a few other house themed bits I used as props for these photos, after I'm done talking about the journal :).

The day-by-day contents of three different advent calendars

Photo of the day: 21.11.2020 Photo of the day: 29.11.2020

Normally, Bert and I don't really bother with advent calendars.
He's never had one in the past, and I have had a Star Wars chocolate one years ago that my dad bought for me. It probably wasn't very expensive and whilst the chocolate wasn't amazing, it was actually alright. But not so good that I could be enticed to buy myself a calendar in the following years (dad had the same one and he never bothered buying anyone another so I think he really didn't like the choc haha).

But this year, with 2020 being the absolute dumpster fire that it is, I ended up buying three advent calendars.

Why Les 4 Maisons is my favourite Harry Potter/interiour design store.

Photo of the day: 4.8.2020

Today I would like to talk about Les 4 Maisons
A Wizarding World store in Liège, Belgium. Well, it's a Wizarding World and steampunk + dieselpunk design store, really, so very dangerous for my bank account! When it comes to decor, the store is absolutely on point, I would love to put tons of things inside my home, no joke.

Let’s talk about wands

1

A couple of months ago, I decided to buy a wand. A Harry Potter wand.
As you may know, there are many, many MANY wands available, and I spent far more time than I care to admit staring at wands on the internet, eventually settling on Parvati Patil’s one. I’m not a particular fan of Parvati’s, but I liked how her wand looked, and by that time, I was just kinda fed up staring at wands and went with that one.
Of course, since then, I have accumulated several other wands, and a book about wands, so let’s talk about wands.
(If anyone wonders, that small tote is by Geek Gear).
I will continue to update this post whenever I (or Bert) acquire a new wand, so if you're into wands, check back regularly!

Fun with friends and Van Gogh

Expo Van Gogh

A few weeks ago (I know, I am forever chronically behind, but the expo is still on ‘till November 8th so this time it’s totally irrelevant!) I went to the Antwerp edition of Van Gogh, the Immersive Experience with Claire and Bert.
