Photo of the day: 17.3.2021

Well dang, two weeks in photos and videos instead of just the one! Last week I just could NOT get a post sorted the first three days of the week, and then I thought "eh, two weeks it is". So without much further ado... :)

Book review: The Archive of Magic: The Film Wizardry of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

The Fantastic Beasts movie books continue! Although this is the final installment, at least 'till the next movie comes out next year. I'm guessing they'll do a book like this about it, I do hope so!

I would say that everything I said about the scrapbooks about the first movie goes for this one too. The design is gorgeous, it's fun to see behind the scenes glimpses and better looks at things that were hard to really notice in the movies. Find out a little more about characters, and of course: the paper props. Sadly, not many of them can easily be removed, and it's once again not an endeavour I would like to try my hand at, but you _could_ do it if you are careful and have an appropriate blade as to not damage the pages themselves.

If you really want to know more about the book, watch the flip-through down below :)

Into the case books about Newt Scamander (flip-through and review)

Today I'd like to talk about two different books:"The Case of Beasts- Explore the Film Wizardry of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" and "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: Newt Scamander: A Movie Scrapbook". I have put these two together because not only are they both about the same Fantastic Beasts movie (and Where to Find Them), but also because they are essentially the same kind of book: movie paper prop book.

The Case of Beasts falls within The Archives of Magic series of books, whilst the Newt Scamander Scrapbook is just a stand alone, and as far as I know there isn't a sequel for it for The Crimes of Grindelwald. Whilst there is one for The Case of Beasts.
Even though they aren't part of the same series, they are essentially the same kind of book. They are both very photo and movie magic heavy, both focus on extra character and setting information, and both have paper props you can remove. Some come out without issue, and others involve slicing through (because it does NOT peel off) a strip of tape. Which I didn't do because I am terrified of damaging my books, and I also don't want to lose any pieces.  A lot of these props are really sizeable but aside from the Mappa Mundy and MACUSA map, each of of them comes with different props.

I actually really love these books, I actually like the Scrapbook a little more than The Case of Beasts, just because I like how compact it is, I love the Art Deco feel of the cover (both front and back) and I love all the loose paper props. That said, they are both beautiful books with a stunning level of detail, and if you collect Harry Potter books, or just want to get some specialty Fantastic Beasts ones, I would absolutely recommend these. Just, and take this from me, have a really good look around, because prices really vary like crazy. I most certainly did _not_ pay $68 for The Case of Beasts, not even $45, which is what the publisher is asking. I paid about $30 on bol.com. So there you go.

If you want to see if these books, or one of these books, is something you'd like to get, have a look at my flip-through videos, where you can see the entire book and all the props.

I know, I know, the background tunes are old timey music like you hear in Disney themeparks (clearly they don't want to pay for music either haha) but if I use official movie soundtrack snippets on the Toob, the Toob gets upset at me and the video gets restricted. So yeah, if you don't like old timey bops, hit that mute button!

February Wizarding World haul

Well, here we go, my very first actual haul video! :)

I think this kind of video is called talking head, which amuses me to no end.
Whilst I am not making any promises towards an upload schedule, I will try to do these more often, because there is for sure room for improvement :’).
That said, I had fun making this, and that’s all that matters, and I hope that whomever has a look also has fun watching it! :)

And considering we've had to cough up a phone number (thankfully evil Google already had Bert's phone number because I would have fully gone IGTV otherwise [yes FB is also evil]) I will be able to have a proper intro and outro image next time!

The Last week of February 2021 in photos

Photo of the day: 24.2.2021

The baffled stare of a cat who realises it's been a whole year of COVID-19. Thankfully there were plenty of nice, non plague things to the week, too!
