Last day in Zeeland, off to the beach!

Zeeuws breakfast

On our third and last day in Zeeland, we once again headed for St-John in the morning for breakfast. The Zeeuws breakfast was nearly identical to that of the previous day, and we both felt that enough was enough. Its nice, for sure, but definitely not to have multiple days in a row. Its just way too sweet for our liking.

We went and took the bags to the car, before returning to the room to pick up the last few things and then to check out of the hotel. Contrary to the two days before, we weren’t going to spend the day in Middelburg. Instead we wanted to go to Domburg, a coastal city about 20 minutes away by car. I wouldn’t say that Domburg is comparable with small Belgian coastal towns, as those are mostly all the same, with a lot of apartment blocks opposite the beach, lined with stores opposite the road between housing/buildings and the beach itself. Domburg had a lot of really cool looking coastal and beach houses, and we didn’t really see a lot of apartments at all, if any (I can’t remember). It was still really windy, and definitely NOT swimming weather, so instead we just walked on the beach and the walkway a little higher up.

Afterwards we went into town, and whilst there were a few really cool décor shops, we didn’t buy anything as nothing really caught our eye. Because the weather was only so-so we ended getting a drink in one of the many cafés lining what was probably supposed to be the high street (it was pretty short and uneventful). I also had a waffle, because I was hungry. It was really good, too!

And that was it really, not a very exciting last day in Zeeland, but it was really nice to be able to walk on the beach without it being swamped with tourists. I did like the beach there, even though I maintain that our wave breakers are far superior than the sticks in the sand type ones the beaches of Domburg have! Our wave breakers are meant for climbing and hunting crabs. I was very disappointed about lack of crab catching opportunities (basically you tie an open mussel to a sturdy string, drop it down a crevice, when a crab grabs hold, you pull it up. Take pictures of said crab or draw it and then put it back. Lots of fun, and no crabs get hurt in the process (I always let them have the mussel for their trouble, too).
